OPRAH WINFREY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY FOUNDATION The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation provided approximately $100,000 to support the development of the LEAD Global program for students at its Academy. The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls - South Africa offers girls (grades 7 through 12) an opportunity to develop their full intellectual, social and leadership potential. To be eligible to attend, girls must be South African, academically talented, able to demonstrate leadership qualities and come from a disadvantaged family or community. The Academy follows a rigorous, dynamic and innovative curriculum designed to develop critical, questioning minds in preparation for university study. The curriculum is based on South Africa’s national standards. The Academy’s involvement with LEAD Global came out of a desire to prepare their girls for global career opportunities alongside peers from different countries in one program so that all participants might make better informed decisions when choosing a college or profession. Career Day Assembly Chaperones and Volunteers were heavily involved with delivering the content for the Career Day Assembly which was attended by 200 learners (ages 13 – 16) on the campus of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls; as well as for Career Day at the program openings at both the University of the Witwatersrand and University of Capetown.
