MOREHOUSE COLLEGE

Morehouse College is a private, historically black liberal arts college for men, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

In June, to prepare U.S. based students for their travel to South Africa, LEAD partnered with Morehouse College to host orientation for a group of Cape Town bound student participants.

The goal of this university partnership was to develop pre-launch orientation programming and enable student participants to form connections with each other and with the executives serving as their volunteer chaperones. The program also aimed to mitigate anxieties that may have developed prior to the students’ international travel.

Orientation was conducted within Morehouse’s Center for Leadership/Ethics, and program content focused heavily on developing one’s self through team-based project work.

The meaningful interaction between participating students and chaperones was proof that a supportive collegiate atmosphere was key in preparing the young learners for South Africa.
